India 291 for 9 (Vijay 65, Pujara 62, Boult 3-57, Santner 3-77) v New Zealand
A lot of things went right for Test cricket today. There was a big occasion - India's 500th match in the format. There was superb batting from Pujara and Vijay. Their dominance was clear but not-in-your face. Pujara's footwork againstspin was outstanding. Vijay's ability to play late and leave was near perfect. New Zealand lost the morning session by a marginAnd then they perked up. They got sucked in by the dry pitch and bowled 21 of the first 31 overs with spin.
But after lunch they went to reverse swing with NeilWagner and after tea Trent Boult cleaned up the tail with conventional swing. That they fought back so well is credit to them, but India with 291 for 9 should feel they have got the runs on the board to feel relatively confident. New Zealand's batsmen"Definitely disappointed, batted well, I thought after tea was my session to cashin.
Got to take it in my stride and we better in the second innings," M Vijay says," The wicket was on the slower side, and so wanted to rotate strike, with their safe field as well. It wasn't turning as much. Wicket got slower, and on day two with their footmarks our bowlers can play around a bit. It's a very good score, 20runs short, but tomorrow morning if Jaddu gets it going, 320-330 would be a very good score. It would get lower moving forward. They have to play a waitinggame, if they attack, we will have the upper hand"
